12- Bikey Signs For Boro

BORO have completed the signing of Cameroon international defender André Bikey on a one-year contract, with a further year's option, following a training period with the club.

Free agent Bikey, who has played in the Premier League for both Reading and Burnley, becomes Boro's 12th signing of one of the busiest summers in club history.

The 27-year-old spent a period on loan with Bristol City and played a pivotal role in the Robins' survival last term, featuring in seven of their last eight fixtures, during which time City were unbeaten.

He has represented his country more than 20 times and his versatility will add to Tony Mowbray's options after Rhys Williams' long-term injury.

"I'm excited about the chance of helping Middlesbrough get back into the Premier League," says Bikey. "The club just missed out on the play-offs last season and I can sense the ambition to go one better this year."

Manager Tony Mowbray said: "André is a player I have liked for a long time. He is a different type of centre-half to what we have got.

"He is a very powerful defender who has real physicality and he also has good technical ability. André hasn't played a great deal of football in the last year but when he gets up to speed our supporters will see the qualities he possesses."

His full family name is André Bikey-Amougou but the name that will appear on his shirt is simply 'Bikey'.
